The Design, Operation and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part 2 class is scheduled in eight, 3-hour increments on the following days:10/21, 10/23, 10/28, 10/30, 11/4, 11/6, 11/13 and 11/20 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The class is held in person.
The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part I provides information property and facility managers will need to make management decisions about various building systems and sites. These decisions will increase occupant safety and comfort while facilitating building efficiency to meet an organization’s business goals. This course is about understanding electrical systems and lighting, elevator maintenance and modernization, and pest and solid waste management. Other areas of interest covered in this course include security issues, fire and life-safety systems, and energy management concerns.
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Effectively analyze, manage, and optimize building systems.
- Identify opportunities to increase the efficiency of building systems.
- Understand the successful management of pests, solid wastes, energy, and security and life-safety systems.
- Evaluate and implement best practices for increasing occupant safety and comfort.
Please note: Completion of The Design, Operation and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part 1 is NOT REQUIRED in order to take this course.

Erik has been involved in Facility Engineering Operations and Maintenance for 20 years. Having graduated from the Local 39 Apprenticeship, he worked his way up through the ranks to the management level, now overseeing Engineering Departments for a portfolio of properties throughout Northern California and the Mid West. Erik has been involved with BOMA since 2013 and now serves on the BOMA San Francisco Board of Directors.
