Real Estate Talk: The Hard Work Of Soft Skills

Join industry veterans Tom and Nancy Gille for an engaging session on mastering the soft skills essential to professional success. Communication is a two-way street, where both parties play a vital role in ensuring clarity rather than confusion.

Feedback—whether giving or receiving—is a crucial part of effective communication. Done poorly, it’s like leading without direction; done well, it fosters growth and alignment. Accountability is the cornerstone of achieving results, ensuring that roles and responsibilities are backed by ownership and follow-through.

Additionally, being a successful manager involves not only leading your team but also managing up. Learn how to communicate effectively with your supervisors, anticipate their needs, and build stronger, more productive relationships to enhance your professional success.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Nancy Gille | REAL Systems
As principal of REAL Systems since 2011, Nancy utilizes her operational and investment fiduciary experience to assist and advise commercial real estate owners and occupiers on property matters and people performance.

Her first industry job was at Lincoln Property reporting to the project manager developing 100 Spear (now 101 Mission) Street. After that building was stabilized, she left to join Equitable Real Estate—initially as a property manager/owner’s leasing representative and ultimately as asset manager of a portfolio of hotel, office and industrial properties located in California, Oregon and Hawaii.

Nancy's experience as an investment fiduciary grew at the Government of Singapore, one of the world's leading sovereign wealth funds, where she had did asset management and acquisition of office buildings in select North American markets.

Strategic roles Nancy has held include as market leader of the Peninsula region of Spieker Properties and Bay Area head of Harsch Investment Properties, guiding teams in the property management and leasing of existing office & industrial properties as well as handling acquisitions, dispositions and (re) development of assets.

Nancy's formal education includes a M.Sc., Management earned as a Sloan Fellow at London Business School and B.S., Organizational Behavior, from University of San Francisco.

With a belief in lifelong learning, Nancy has enjoyed sharing her knowledge with students—as adjunct faculty at San Francisco State and via courses taught for industry organizations such as BOMI, BOMA and the CREATE program.
